ΚΑΛΗ ΟΡΕΞΗ!
FANOUROPITA (Revealing pie)
(Fanouropita
is a sweet pie that has received its name from St. Fanourios, a young Saint of
the Orthodox Church. We make Fanouropita and take it to church to be “read”
during an evening ceremony and then we
distribute it to the people as eulogy. Tradition has it that if singles
put some fanouropita under their pillow and sleep on it, they will dream the
person they will marry. The story comes out of the saint’s name. Fanourios is a
derivative from fanerono meaning reveal).
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 glass water
- 1 glass seed oil
- 1 glass orange juice
- 1 glass sugar
- 1 glass currants
- 2 spoonfuls cinnamon
- 2 spoonfuls clove powder
- ½ kilo self raising flour
- 1 small glass liqueur
DIRECTIONS:
Put all the
ingredients in a bowl, apart from the flour and currants. Beat them while you
add the flour, until you have a smooth mixture. Add the currants and mix them
with a spoon. Put the mixture in an oiled
baking pan and bake it at 180 degrees, preferably in air, until it gets golden. You can check if it’s ready
by dipping a knife or a souvlaki in the pie. If it comes out dry, your pie is
ready. Le it cool and sprinkle it with
iced sugar.
BON APPETITE!!!
